In 1968, the draft was under way. I, as a drafty being inducted into the army to end up in VietNam. Where I was wounded and left with a disability. Having a hard time with college and finding a job with the disability. Still, making my life as well as I can. Being honored by those that gave their lives. And even being able to bring three fellow soldiers home even they were only in my mind.

CLOSURE From A War Not Won

The story is about a time in my life, from being drafted into the Army, throughout my time in the military. It was a call of duty, to me and the country. Being wounded and with my disabilities from the war. Continuing with health problems in the workforce.

The friends I brought back from Vietnam are my sounding board. The flashes form the war (PTSD) entering my life. The nightmares and flashbacks are keeping me on the verge of destruction. Vietnam is going to kill me in the end.

Once, being a soldier, I served my country with unwavering courage. But the war had taken its toll, leaving me with scars both visible and invisible. My right side, partially paralyzed from a bullet wound to the head, is now a constant reminder of the price of freedom.

I returned home, my uniform adorned with medals, yet I felt incomplete. The bustling city that once felt familiar now seemed like a maze of challenges. This became my new comrade in arms.

Despite the odds, I refused to let my disability define me. I found solace in the company of fellow veterans, a band of brothers and sisters who understood the language of loss and resilience. Together, we shared stories, laughter, and a silent understanding that went beyond words.

One day, I discovered a passion for writing, a talent I never knew I possessed. With each stroke of the keys, I wrote my emotions - the words of my pain, the somber pages of my melancholy, and my hope.

My writing became my voice, telling tales of battles fought and dreams yet to be conquered. People read this far and wide to witness a warrior’s tales, where every word spoke of bravery and every line was a testament to my enduring spirit.

My journey was not just about overcoming a disability; it was a story of transformation. From the ashes of my former life, I rose, a phoenix with a book, inspiring all who crossed my path.

And so, a veteran with a disability became a beacon of inspiration, proving that the human spirit is unconquerable, and that true heroes are not just born on the battlefield, but are made every day, in the quiet corners of life where courage resides.

As I write this from my heart, I hope you read it with an open heart.
